Meet Nathan Fooks — The Heart Behind Everything Audio N.E.
Nathan’s passion for audio and electronics started young — really young.
At just 12 years old, armed with a pair of second-hand speakers, a mixer, an amplifier, and some radio microphones bought from Maplin’s, Nathan printed out posters advertising his very first PA system for hire around local rehearsal rooms and venues. When his bookings doubled up, he had to invest in a second set — and that was just the beginning.
Nathan always dreamed big.
By the age of 15, he proudly owned a full rig featuring 302 subs and eight Bose 802 speakers — a legendary setup he’d long admired. It was a symbol of a dream realized through sheer determination and hard work.
A defining moment came one night at school, when Nathan met Mal Turner of MT Audio Systems, the North’s go-to audio hire legend.
Fascinated by the maze of cables and gear, Nathan stayed glued to Mal’s side all evening — probably driving him mad with endless questions. Mal’s right-hand man Paul was just as patient, teaching young Nathan how to wrap cables and the ins and outs of the sound desk. That night, Nathan wasn’t just a bystander — he voluntarily became the roadie, and before Mal could say a thing, half of the cables were wrapped and packed. He’s remained close to Mal and MTA ever since, grateful for the foundation they gave him.
At 13, Nathan’s regular visits to Phase One in Darlington turned into something much bigger when Mike and Julie offered him a Saturday job — starting on his 13th birthday.
Though pay was often traded for gear purchases, Nathan gained priceless hands-on experience, learning how to deal with customers, solve problems, and work with a wide range of equipment. Nearly two decades later, the friendship between Nathan, Mike, and their families remains rock solid — a bond that’s helped shape Everything Audio into what it is today.
